'Get rid of them!' Queen told to replace Meghan and Harry with 'loyal' Sophie Wessex - Express

Sophie Wessex 'very sensible' with royal charity work says expert

The Queen has reportedly formed a "firm of eight" senior royals who will make public appearances together this year that could include Sophie, the wife of the monarch's youngest son, Prince Edward. This comes after the Duke and Duchess of Sussex dramatically stepped down as senior members of the Royal Family last March to seek financial independence. The couple are due to have a royal review with Her Majesty in March, one year after they moved to LA with son Archie. But they may not be making a comeback to the Royal Family anytime soon, as other royals could be soon filling their shoes.

Express.co.uk readers were asked whether Sophie should take on a bigger role after Meghan and Harry quit.

Out of the 2,551 people who voted, a staggering 2,331 voters (91 percent) said yes.

Only 202 people (nine percent) did not think so.

And 18 voters (zero percent) said they did not know.

Readers were quick to share their views on whether the Queen should give Sophie more duties.

One person was quick to heap praise on the royal, as they said: "Sophie is dignified, graceful and carries out her public acts with genuine compassion."

Another reader added: "Sophie is one thousand times better than Harry and his wife as a working royal because she is loyal and sincere in serving the Queen and the country."

A third person called Sophie "a safe pair of hands".

And another person simply said: "Get rid of them!"

The Queen has not officially confirmed the this new “firm”.

But it could be made up of Prince Charles and his wife Camilla, as well as Prince William and Kate, the Duchess of Cambridge.

The Queen’s daughter Princess Anne is also reportedly included.

A royal source has told the Mirror that “The family are united in exploring the possibilities in working with each other to highlight the causes dear to their hearts, helping each other and the country at the same time”.

The source added the royals are “working on opportunities for next year and beyond already”.

They said: “The Queen has often said they 'need to be seen to be believed'—this is coming from the very top."

Sophie and Edward were also among eight members of the Royal Family who gathered outside Windsor Castle last month when Kate and William returned from their royal train tour after personally thanking covid heroes around the UK.

Royal author Angela Levin added Sophie and Prince Edward "feel they have been left out a bit" in the past as royals.

She told Express.co.uk: "I’m sure that the Earl and Countess of Wessex will step up.

"They have done recently anyway since Harry and Meghan have gone. They are very keen to do things, I think they feel they have been left out a bit and now is a chance.

"The Countess of course is an incredibly hard worker, very good with people and the Queen adores her.

"They live very near the Queen in Windsor and they often went to church on Sunday before the lockdown. And she learnt to ride so she could ride with Her Majesty."

Meanwhile, Meghan and Harry have already arranged an array of projects this year after siging multi-million pound deals with Spotify and Netflix.

The Duke's friend and ITV News anchor Tom Bradby said the pair were "content" with their new lives.

But he added Harry is “heartbroken by the situation with his family” after moving to the US.

He said on Sunday’s episode of Love Your Weekend With Alan Titchmarsh: “So are they unhappy? No, I think they are content, the things they are doing they are quite excited by.

“I think he is heartbroken by the situation with his family, you don’t necessarily need to have knowledge to know that, but I think it is true.”
