Ryan Reynolds Apparently Pitched Disney a DEADPOOL/BAMBI Short Film - Yahoo Lifestyle

It will always be weird that Deadpool is officially a Disney character. But rather than shy away from the vulgar Merc With a Mouth, the Mouse House has embraced the character. He appeared in a promo for Free Guy with the Thor: Ragnarok‘s Korg. And the MCU’s head honcho Kevin Feige has said Deadpool is eventually joining the franchise. That doesn’t mean he can go anywhere he wants at the Happiest Place on Earth, though. Disney has some limits for how it’s willing to use the super antihero. Like letting him profess his love for a detestable character. The company rejected a pitch from Ryan Reynolds for a Deadpool short film starring the hunter who killed Bambi’s mother.

Reynolds told IGN he tried selling Disney on a short where he interrogated one of the greatest villains in movie history. He wanted Deadpool to question the hunter who killed Bambi’s mom. That premise sounds both dark and hilarious enough on its own. But the twist would have made it even better. “The whole gist of it is that Deadpool is actually just a huge fan,” Reynolds said. “He’s not interrogating. He just wants to know how he could be the most loathed Disney character in the history of Disney.”

Wow. That is genuinely great and we very much want to see it. Disney did not feel the same way, though. Reynolds’ new employer allegedly said, “Well, I don’t think that’s ever going to happen.”

We’re not surprised by that. Having Deadpool side with one of cinema’s most loathsome figures isn’t exactly the best way to endear Deadpool to a new audience. That doesn’t lessen our disappointment that this short won’t happen.

However, the idea may have helped Disney say yes to his Korg idea, which Reynolds pitched after his Bambi short was shot down. The promo for Free Guy, a movie starring Korg himself, Taika Waititi, is perfect. And it shows that Disney can and will find ways to make Deadpool a part of the studio’s future.

That future just won’t include him praising Disney’s most vile villains.
